My Lisa’s Got it (She’s Got That Vibe): Q&A with Uber Fashion Working Mum

The first time I met Lisa Pierce was on her very first day back in the office after maternity leave. The mum of one, adorable Reuben, looked flawless; effortless glamour in a grey oversized sweatshirt, patterned peg trousers and heels. Granted she is PR Manager at Miss Selfridge, a must shop for fingers on the pulse stylistas, but I was naturally impressed and thought you’d love to hear how this chic working mum keeps it all together.

You’ve just returned to work. How does it feel to be back?

It feels good – a bit like I’d never left. It’s nice to be me again and not just a mummy – I didn’t think I’d feel as positive about it as I do now and was upset to have my time with Reuben come to an end, but I think it’s the right time for me to be back at work and him having lots of fun with his nanny share.

How has motherhood changed your style?

I think I’ve become a lot quicker in the morning at getting ready and also a lot more relaxed. I’ve lived in jeans and jumpers for the last 10 months! It’s not about me anymore it’s about getting ready in the limited time I have and also being realistic that I’m bound to end up with bits of rice cake, dribble, snot and miscellaneous food items stuck to me by the end of the day. My hair and make-up routine has also been shortened to 5 minutes and most days I don’t touch my hair!

Are there any post-baby body areas you struggle with or love?

I still think my belly isn’t the same and my boobs have definitely changed! I just tend not to care too much now – the changes are a result of having my little boy which isn’t a bad price to pay.

How are you enjoying life as a working mum?

Am really happy – however, I’m only a few days in, the novelty may wear off. My little boy is super happy when his nanny arrives and so happy to see me at the end of the day so everything’s good. I’m enjoying using my brain in a different way and am sure the skills of juggling numerous things over the last 10 months will add to my work output.

Does working in fashion put added pressure on your working wardrobe?

I guess I have to think more about what I wear – before I started back at work I did do a wardrobe refresher in Zara, Topshop and H+M just to get a few pieces I could wear that felt new and different to my exhausted wardrobe. I’m sure now that I’m back in the world of fashion, I’ll be more inspired to try different trends and update my wardrobe more often – it kinda feels nice to dress up put some heels on and walk down Oxford Street. I’ve even learnt how to walk without a pram again!

What are your working wardrobe essentials?

Skinny jeans, boyfriend t-shirts, statement knit/jumper, easy to wear heels and a few silk shirts

What’s the hardest thing you’ve found to maintain in your beauty regime?

Actually having time to do it – I’ve never had that much of a make-up routine though I tend to use my favourite things – Touche Eclait, mascara, bit of bronzer and lip balm. If I’m feeling knackered I whack on a bit of liquid liner and am now addicted to my eyebrow pencil, am sure it actually makes no difference but it makes me feel better!

What are your can’t live without beauty/ skincare products?

  1. Benefit eyebrow pencil shop here
  2. Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm (still also use my left over nipple cream – a make-up artist once told me it was the best thing to use) shop here
  3. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclait shop here
  4. Estee Lauder Daywear BB cream shop here
  5. Khiels Milk and Honey Body Butter shop here
  6. Laura Mercier Bronzing Mineral Powder shop here

You have £20 in your pocket and fancy a style pick me up, what do you buy?

A scoop neck t-shirt from COS

Where do you like to shop for baby?

Zara, Gap and H+M

Did you breastfeed? If so, what were your breastfeeding essentials.

Yes, but only for 6 weeks. Comfy bras, I liked Elle McPherson’s as I didn’t feel frumpy. A pillow/cushion, Lanisoh Nipple Cream and a shirt.

What’s in your nappy bag?

Water wipes, sudocream, nappy bags, change mat, toys, rice cakes, lip balm, hand sanitizer and probably lots of crumbs, random tissues etc!
